Abisola Arowolo

I foresee the modeling industry as that promoting MORE plus size models as well as MORE ethnic minorities.

BMW: Where is Abisola from and how did she find herself modeling?

Abisola: I am from Nigeria as that's where my mom and dad are from but I came to UK when I was about 8 years old. I always loved taking pictures as a teenager when I was having fun with my friends... Like what normal teenagers would do...lol. But I enjoy taking pictures and being in front of the camera. Actually I called the camera my husband... lol. Even if I wasn't doing a photo shoot I always managed to get my phone and take pictures of myself and check my phone to look at the result but ever since I have been modeling I enjoy every bit and moment of it.

BMW: Where do you think the modeling industry is headed and what do you foresee of it in 10 years to come?

Abisola: Modeling industry is hard to get into as there are other people trying to get into it and you have to compete against them but that doesn't stop me as it encourages me to work harder and believe in myself more in everything I do in my life. In 10 years time I foresee the modeling industry as that promoting MORE plus size models as well as MORE ethnic minorities. Plus size models are being secluded from the industry clearly due to their size and are at a disadvantage compared to those with "perfect" bodies.

BMW: What do you enjoy the most about modeling?

Abisola: Well I enjoy posing in front of the camera and looking forward to the result of my shoot to see how the pictures actually turn out. What I enjoy most about modeling is getting my make up done by a professional makeup artist and also being given different outfits to wear for the shoots... also having my hair stylist, which is really good as I always usually have to do my own make up and bring my own clothes... lol. That can be hard as hell coz as I have to think carefully of what outfit and make up to wear to match my looks.

BMW: A lot of challenges come with being a model. Which of them have you faced and how do you deal with them?

Abisola: Well there is this situation that I have faced when someone told me that I am too short to do a runaway... also that being a short model wouldn't get you far. But I believe that no matter how tall you are you can push yourself and work harder to make your dreams come true and believing in yourself rather than listening to someone trying to put me down as I work harder and stay focused to achieve my dreams.

BMW: What current projects are you undertaking at the moment?

Abisola: Lately, I haven't been taking up projects coz I really haven't got free time due to studies as that is my number 1 priority in my life.

BMW: What do you think the youngsters that want to join modeling should be aware of before venturing into the industry. What advice do you have for them?

Abisola: Well... well.. Youngsters should be aware of which agency they join and that they should be prepared to get rejected and also they should always consider having a backup plan if they want to go into the modeling industry. There are times that modeling may not work out for them.

BMW: Lastly what do you think of fashion in the 70s and now. What vast changes have you seen?

Abisola: Mmmm... lol... I wasn't born in the 70's but I see there has been a lots of changes since then till now as people are donning different types of clothes in fashion such as skinny jeans, leggings etc... But it seem like the 70's fashion is coming back I guess... lol.
