Akqwana La Rose Amos

My daily routine consists of visualizing working out...

BMW: Akqwana La Rose, I noticed somewhere you're Nigerian... Tell BMW readers about your background... Growing up... and how you ended up being in Minnesota, USA.

Akqwana: Yes, my father is Nigerian... Yoruba is our tribe. I was born here in the United States where I've lived most my life. I did live in Nigeria for some time when I was sixteen. I must say during my time in Nigeria I got the best education ever. It's truly a country that has no tolerance for slackers.

BMW: What's your daily routine like?

Akqwana: My daily routine consists of visualizing working out and oh so how good I will feel if I actually did it... lol. I try to workout when I can. If I have been booked on a modeling project I will complete that or go to one of my two other jobs. I'm a busy gal.

BMW: We've noticed you have a degree in nursing. What persuaded you to join the fashion industry?

Akqwana: Yes, I have a Nursing degree and will be going back to school to further my education. Nurses are great I must add :) The fashion industry was always a part of my life though. Ever since I was about eight years old I have been intrigued by the fashion industry. I always loved playing in makeup, cutting and arranging my clothes and accessories. I was in modeling school at eight years old doing projects and loving it so it continued on from there.

BMW: What are you currently up to in the industry? Any projects that you are undertaking?

Akqwana: Yes, some great projects. I have worked with international cosmetic line Akina International, Plasma Energy and Nubian hair line.

BMW: What challenges have you met along the way... How competitive and ugly does it get?

Akqwana: Believe it or not I'm shy and have a major social phobia but I'm in the fashion industry? I know, it's crazy. I still battle with my social phobia but learned how to control it better by just focusing on my goal. Some people in the industry can be cruel by saying things or behaving in a certain manor that can make you uncomfortable and not want to be there. So a lot of confidence building within myself keeps me going.

BMW: Where do you picture yourself in 5 years and what are your targets?

Akqwana: In 5 years I picture myself completely finished with school, building a great name for myself in the fashion industry and living in Georgia for sure. The harsh Minnesota weather still frightens me even though I've been here for years.....burrrrrrr. Did I mention move to Georgia for sure? :)

BMW: Have dad and mum been very supportive of your venture into modelling?

Akqwana: Oh yes, my mother and father are the best. At times my father doesn't agree with some of the clothing in the fashion industry so he will just usually shake his head in disbelief. My parents have been there though since the beginning by traveling with me out of state and attending shows. They are my biggest supports. Love you mommy and daddy.

BMW: Simply describe yourself in 3 words...

Akqwana: Goofy, motivated and caring.
