BMW: Is it ever a challenge to get to a client?
As you know I live far out of London and getting to a client can be challenging as I have to pre plan my journey. I have got lost a few times whilst on my way somewhere, but because I manage my time. I always configure extra time within my journey to find my way around.
The easiest thing for me to do if I have quite a few things to do in London is to stay overnight or possibly a few days. I never let my traveling become an issue, as told by my parents "Nothing comes to you in life... you have to go get in" and that's exactly what I'm here to do.
BMW: was your craziest experience at a client's location?
Ashleigh: Well... I can't say that I have had any crazy experiences as such but I have worked in some disorganized shows. I suppose that can't be a bad thing. You live and you learn.
BMW: profile says that you have some Caribbean in you... Does this add some spice to your work?
Ashleigh: Well... I wouldn't say this adds spice to my work. My personality adds the spice... lol. Both sides of my grandparents originate from Jamaica. Although both my grandfathers are black, one grandma is half Asian and half black, whilst the other is mixed with some Spanish. So I could say I bring a bit of flavour to my work.
BMW: Does the competition in the industry ever get to you?
Being in this industry is very tough, especially when there are so many models of colour fighting for that one spot that does not come around often. There has been a few times when it has got to me and that might throw me off track for a short time. Nevertheless modeling is something I have dreamed of since a little girl and each knock back I get makes me stronger and allows me to accomplish more. I'm a go getter!
BMW: What have been your accomplishments so far as a model?
Ashleigh: My first accomplishment so far as a model is being signed to an agency (Mahongany models)... My second would be when I was a V.I.P hostess at the D'eclipse club with the sensational RnB singer JOE. I thought I would have been star struck but I was actually quite calm. That's when I realised my dream of becoming a model was now my reality especially when I saw my picture with him on the weekly newsletter from Mahogany... YES...
I then went on to become a part of Top Model Of Colour 2008 where I got through to the top 13. That was an experience that made me realise how hard you have to work and I loved every minute of it. I have also taken part in a fashion show called "Fashion Never Sleeps". I also did a fashion show in my home town Brum for the charity "The Prince's Trust" at the Aston Villa Football stadium. This is just the start for me so remember this face!
